About Mrs. Marino
Kathryn (Katy) Marino began studying the violin at the age of six at a private Suzuki studio. She attended the Governor’s School for the Arts in Norfolk, Virginia, and continued her music education at the Eastman School of Music, studying the violin with Lynn Blakeslee and Frank Huang. Katy received her Bachelor of Music Degree from Eastman in Music Education cum laude in 2010. Later, she earned a Master’s degree of Music Education at Boston University.
Katy has also trained at the American Suzuki Institute, completing trainings through Suzuki book 5 as well as the Suzuki Early Childhood Education Music Class. She spent seven years developing the K-3 Strings and 4-12 Orchestra Program at North Broward Preparatory School in Coconut Creek, Florida. In 2015, she was recognized as the Meritas Teacher of the Year.
Katy moved to Appleton in 2017 and taught 5K General Music in the Kimberly Area School District’s Janssen, Sunrise, Westside, and Woodland Elementary Schools and the 4K Center for Literacy for two years. Now Katy teaches 1st-4th grade music classes at Woodland Elementary School. In the general music classroom, Katy blends a variety of music pedagogies, including Kodaly, Orff, Gordon and Suzuki, to create engaging music lessons.
She continues to play the violin with the Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra, coach adult learners in the New Horizons Orchestra of Fox Valley, and teach private violin lessons in Darboy.
